Many of my clients have been asking me about the new laws that have been put in place by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources regarding the ability of local wedding planning companies to use chairs, arches and other types of wedding set ups on our beaches. I want to clear up a few things for you all. In Hawaii we have both State Beaches and beaches that are run under the Department of Parks and Recreation. Arches and chairs are no longer permited on State Beach sites, however they are permissable on lands that fall under the jurisdiction of a Parks and Recreational area. Many of the toughest areas to hold an event with all of the extras are located on Islands such a Maui, where you have many, many wedding professionals vying for the same locations on a daily basis. Here on Oahu it is still possible to have a ceremony either on or near the sand. You just have to find a wedding company that understands the difference and that is knowledgeable about the options.
